Making Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Mainstream Supply in Nepal
Standards/Labeling

Energy Efficiency Standards and Labeling (EE S&L) are key mechanisms to promote energy efficiency, especially in relation to household appliances, lighting products, automobiles and other mass-produced consumer and commercial energy-using equipment. They can also play an important role in making consumers aware of the importance of energy efficiency.

With this aim, AEPC intends to:

  • Identify approaches used for EE S&L in Nepal, including policy, legislation and implementation.
  • Assess the effectiveness of these approaches in improving energy efficiency in Nepal, including in comparison with the approaches of other countries or regions, and suggest how this information could be used to improve policy development and implementation.
  • Suggest areas where international cooperation on standards and labelling could improve implementation and/or reduce costs, including linkages with other international or regional initiatives;
  • Based on the above, make suggestions on possible future activities to improve the use of EE S&L to improve energy efficiency, with a focus on Energy Charter countries that currently do not have EE S&L programmes.

AEPC made a study for the preparation EE standard draft for following electrical and thermal appliances:

  • Electric Fan
  • Refrigerator
  • Room Air conditioner (Unitary and Split Air Conditioner)
  • Induction Motors (Single and Three phase)
  • Pump Sets (Submersible pump and surface pump).
  • Colour TV
  • Electric Geysers
  • Washing Machines
  • Laptops
  • Solar Water Heaters
  • Deep Freezers
  • Microwave Oven
